Where, O death, is your victory?

Colosseum, Rome, September 2015

Inside the Colosseum there is a cross to mark the fact that many Christian Martyrs were killed here. In this arena they may have looked defeated, but this simple wooden symbol shows where true victory lies. For them death wasn’t the end, it didn’t have the final victory over them.

“‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’

55 ‘Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?’

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 15v54b-57
